Line and light
Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine on 29 January 1891, Louis Octave Maxime Le Verrier grew up with a goldsmith and jeweller father. Gifted at drawing, he was nevertheless directed toward agricultural studies. Returning to Paris at sixteen, he rejected that path and worked in several trades before establishing his artistic career.
In 1918, he founded the firm that bears his name. As sculptor, founder and publisher, he conceived objects that bring metalwork into the interior: figures, lights, animals and small decorative pieces. This dual role as creator and publisher helps explain the workshop’s varied output.
The firm continues to produce historical models, including designs by other sculptors. An early model does not therefore prove that a particular casting is early.
